Gorodets golden embroidery is one of the oldest and unique folk arts in Russia.
Dresses and shawls richly decorated with golden embroidery were obligatory elements of the clothes of prosperous women of large merchantry cities of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The golden embroidery of girls’ and women’s headgear – shawls, frontlets, etc. – was especially rich.
The complicated technology of the golden embroidery required special training, that is why not many people were engaged in the craft. Thus, Gorodets was the large center of golden embroidery in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
Gorodets craftswomen were exceptionally skilled in the complicated art of golden embroidery, and had a good sensation of the decorative possibilities of metal threads of various forms.
“Tatyana” Embroidery Factory (since 2006 – “Gorodets Golden Embroidery” Ltd.) became the successor of the traditions of the old Russian golden embroidery art. Gorodets masters still stick to the old patterns of fairy-tale grass and plants, that express the beauty of the nature and are very poetic.

The team of the plant carefully keeps the folk traditions and various embroidery techniques rooted in the past. Tender and delicate guipure, bright and buoyant stitch technique and, certainly, golden embroidery found their new birth in the masterpieces of the modern decorative art.

The plant also specializes in the manufacture of linen, souvenirs with embroidery, coat-of-arms of cities and regions, panels with various patterns and views. Among the latest works of Gorodets craftswomen there is a panel with the coat-of-arms of the Mikhalkov dynasty.
To produce clothes modern and ecologically clean textiles – cotton, flax and silk – are used.
The museum of the enterprise provides a possibility to get acquainted to the history of the famous Russian craft. Visitors can try on old costumes of Gorodets fashionable women and to take pictures. They are offered exiting tours and master-classes. In the factory’s canteen you can have tea with a popular Gorodets honey-cake, the skill of cooking of which has been known here for many centuries.

At a special order a fashion show may be held with the demonstration of the clothes that may be bought or ordered. It is noteworthy that the produce of Gorodets Golden Embroidery – splendid shawls and elegant dresses, costumes and mantelets, blouses and scarfs richly decorated with embroidery - are now worn by female celebrities, foreign tourists and Russian pop stars as well as the women who are able to appreciate handwork and beauty created with love.
